In computing, Xerces is Apache's collection of software libraries for parsing, validating, serializing and manipulating XML.
The library implements a number of standard APIs for XML parsing, including DOM, SAX and SAX2.
It's a proof-of-concept with awkward API, inefficient implementation.
I think it is better to consider libraries on their own merits, instead of trying to deduce quality out of its authors visibility -- Doug has achieved many things, but that does not really change qualities of the particular lib.
